Delegations from the United States and the Islamic Emirate held two-day talks in Doha and discussed a range of issues, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The ministry’s spokesman, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, said both sides discussed political, economic, health, education, security, and humanitarian issues affecting Afghanistan.

Balkhi on Twitter said the Islamic Emirate delegation, led by acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, assured the US delegation led by Thomas West, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, about security in Afghanistan and called for the release of financial assets of Afghanistan's central bank.

“The Afghan side assured them about security, urged immediate unconditional unfreezing of Afghan reserves, ending of sanctions and blacklists, and disconnecting humanitarian issues from political considerations,” he tweeted.

Balkhi said technical groups from both sides also held separate meetings to facilitate progress and both sides agreed to continue such meetings in the future.

The Islamic Emirate--US meeting follows another two-day meeting that was held between Islamic Emirate and European Union delegates in Doha.

The EU delegation asked the Islamic Emirate to take steps toward forming an inclusive government and paving the way for national reconciliation.
